Civitas Policy Institute's Strategic Pillars
Thematic One: Conflict Prevention and Mediation
Main Objective: Create effective non-state structures that regularly contribute to conflict prevention, mediation, conflict resolution, and conflict management; facilitate policy dialogue and diplomatic engagement; and enhance understanding of the root causes and drivers of conflicts in the region.
Thematic Two: Conflict Nexus Security
Main Objectives Regularly analyzing how conflict issues anchor insecurity, confrontations, and disorder, and how they transform countries and societies into a more vulnerable and insecure environment, it is clear that most conflicts in the region are highly violent and deadly, causing severe humanitarian and political conditions. Many domestic and external actors take advantage of these conflicts, making the region more vulnerable.
Thematic Three: Civic Engagement on Conflict Prevention
Main Objective: Engaging and empowering civil society and non-state actors to participate in conflict prevention, mitigation, and resolution policy interventions is essential, especially in regions where some states have been fragile and conflict-prone for decades. Civic engagement is necessary to develop alternative ways to build social capabilities and to hold policymakers accountable, paving the way for sustainable peace.
Thematic Fourth: Conflict Nexus Electoral Governance
Main Objective: Prevent post-election violence and electoral disputes that many states in the region have experienced by promoting policy dialogue and democratic principles of freedom of expression, electoral transparency, and accountability; holding free, fair, and credible elections; engaging political parties and civil society in the management of the electoral cycle and elections; and institutionalizing and empowering electoral bodies.
Thematic Five: Strategic Policy Dialogue Engagements
Main Objective: Engaging regional and international actors, CPI is committed to facilitating shuttle diplomacy that contributes to policy dialogue, negotiations, and the de-escalation of conflicts in the region. CPI is an ideal and instrumental actor to lead wider regional policy interventions and to recalibrate regional governance and mechanisms for conflict resolution.
Thematic Six: Conflict Nexus Transitional Justice
Main Objectives: Support and assist many victims affected by regional conflicts and create a socio-political atmosphere that can help victims and address their grievances
Thematic Seven: Conflict Nexus Extractive Industries
Resources for Development, Not War: We develop policy frameworks to manage land, oil, and the blue economy. Our goal is to ensure that natural resources act as catalysts for economic growth rather than drivers of ethnic or territorial conflict.
